A 28-year-old woman from Lee County, Alabama, Mireire Johana Garcia Lucero, has been charged in connection with an incident involving her 4-month-old infant early Monday morning. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call at a residence on Lee Road 212. Witnesses told authorities that the mother attempted to suffocate, choke, and shake the baby to stop her from crying.
The infant was taken to Piedmont Hospital in Columbus, Georgia. Hospital staff reported that the child was awake and in stable condition. Lucero is being held in Lee County Jail on charges of attempted murder and torture or willful abuse of a child. Her bond is set at $85,000.
