Nurse who stole fentanyl from vials sentenced to prison

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A nurse from Wayne County will serve two years in prison for stealing fentanyl from hospital vials.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan announced 54-year-old Travis Eskridge was sentenced on Tuesday. He worked as a nurse in the emergency room at Ascension St. John Hospital until August 2022, when the thefts were discovered.

Eskridge pleaded guilty and admitted to tampering with vials of fentanyl, a powerful narcotic typically only administered under medical care. He allegedly removed fentanyl from vials, replaced it with another liquid and placed the tampered vials back in the hospital’s locked drug storage system…
