Hope Mills man given 2 consecutive life sentences after conviction in 2022 deaths of mother, son

HOPE MILLS, N.C. (WNCN) — A man has been given two consecutive life sentences without parole in connection to the shooting deaths of a mother and son in Hope Mills in 2022.

Earlier this week, a Cumberland County jury found Rodney William McCrary guilty on two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of 48-year-old Julie Camacho Smith and 25-year-old Desmond Miles Brewington.

“Evidence presented at trial established that McCrary shot both victims inside his residence on Hackberry Drive before disposing of their bodies nearby,” the Hope Mills Police Department said Wednesday…
