Lumbee Tribe’s Agriculture Department Brings New Gardens, Grants, and Programs to Our Community

Since its founding in 2022, the Lumbee Tribe’s Department of Agriculture & Natural Resources has worked on several community projects. These include the Culture Center Fall Garden, summer garden programs at Boys & Girls Club sites, and garden beds at the Stedman Housing community. The department also completed an Agriculture Clean Room and formed the Siouan Language Committee.

The department published the Lumbee Farmer Directory and received four grants totaling over $960,000. The grants fund regenerative agriculture, longleaf pine restoration, youth education, food system infrastructure, and community outreach.
