ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Colder air will settle into Southwest and Central Virginia for the Thanksgiving holiday and continue through the weekend.
Spotty rain showers may linger into Wednesday morning. Otherwise, increasing sunshine is expected as a cold front exits to the east.
It will be slightly milder in parts of the region. Highs will be in the 50s and lower 60s in the Alleghany Highlands and New River Valley. Temperatures will rise into the mid-to-upper 60s and lower 70s in the Roanoke Valley, Central Virginia, and Southside.
Winds will become breezy, with gusts up to 30 mph possible. Starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Wind Advisories will go into effect for Grayson County, as well as portions of Pocahontas and Highland counties. Winds of 15 – 25 mph are expected, with gusts up to 50 mph possible.
A strong dry cold front will pass through on Wednesday night, bringing much cooler air to Southwest and Central Virginia in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Morning temperatures will start in the upper 20s and 30s, then warm into the below-average upper 30s and 40s by the afternoon. Wind gusts of 20-35 mph may occur.
The chilly conditions will persist into Friday and Saturday. High pressure will keep the dry weather in place, while also decreasing wind speeds during the day on Friday. For both days, morning lows will be in the sub-freezing 20s. Afternoon highs will top out in the 30s and 40s.
Rain showers are possible on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Depending on the arrival time of the precipitation, some brief snow showers may occur on Sunday morning in the mountains and at higher elevations…
