Audit reveals school voucher funding shortfalls, recommendation to fix issues

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A November audit involving voucher funding and public education funds has been submitted to lawmakers.

The audit found accountability challenges due to the voucher program growing rapidly. Research revealed that millions of dollars intended for public schools were also used to fill gaps for vouchers.

Andrew Spar is the president of the Florida Education Association.

“There needs to be a separation between public schools and voucher money, so we don’t have money coming out of public schools literally in the middle of the school year creating shortfalls for our school districts, such as Hillsborough and Pinellas counties,” Spar said…
