ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — According to multiple cybersecurity sources, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra has been the victim of an alleged ransomware attack, with threats to release personal information and confidential business documents if RPO doesn’t pay.
The group that claims to have breached and is now extorting RPO is a known ransomware organization called ‘akira‘. Little is known about the group, except for the tactics they use to gain access to data and their association with other known ransom groups.
It is not known whether the Akira ransomware is affecting RPO’s functions or if it is just threatening to release extremely sensitive information rather than encrypting the RPO network, as is the case in many ransomware incidents…
