Local organizations say demand for food assistance is rising sharply compared to last year

TOLEDO, Ohio — As grocery prices remain high, more families across northwest Ohio are turning to food pantries for support, and local organizations say demand is rising sharply compared to last year.

“In many respects, a lot of our reporting data shows that there’s a 10 to 15 percent increase in need currently as opposed to this time last year,” said James Caldwell, president and CEO of the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank.
