CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — A boater who set out on a fishing trip to celebrate his 70th birthday recounted the moments that led to his catamaran capsizing near Clearwater, Florida, and later being rescued by the Coast Guard.
Dennis Woods and three of his relatives — including a 90-year-old — left for their fishing trip on a 25-foot green-and-white catamaran called “Money Well Wasted” from the Seminole Street Boat Ramp around 9:30 a.m. Monday.
When they didn’t return home, a family member reported the overdue vessel to Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders just after 9 p.m.
