(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines is advising motorists to delay travel plans this weekend.
A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for most of Iowa, including Harrison, Crawford, Carroll, Shelby, Audubon, Guthrie, Cass, Adair, and Union Counties in southwest and west-central Iowa from 3:00 p.m. on Friday to 6:00 a.m. on Sunday.
Heavy snow is expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 13 inches. Travel will be very difficult, if not impossible. Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns.
