Albia motorcylist charged with homicide by vehicle after pedestrian was struck, killed

DES MOINES, Iowa — A southeast Iowa motorcyclist now faces a slew of serious charges in connection with a fatal September 2025 collision in Des Moines that left a high-school-aged male dead.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says a motorcycle operated by Kaelin Meinders, 23, of Albia, Iowa, struck the Des Moines teen as he was crossing a street.

Lifesaving measures on the boy were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead later at the hospital…
