AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Salvation Army of Amarillo announced it will offer a free Thanksgiving meal to community members on Thursday, which will be available to the public from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The meal will be hosted at the Salvation Army, located at 400 S Harrison St. Organizers noted the meal would be free and open for all community members.
The Salvation Army and Walmart partnering to help families during the holidays
As noted in previous reports, the Salvation Army is hosting a number of holiday volunteer and donation opportunities for those interested in participating in its efforts to supply resources to families in Amarillo and surrounding areas. Those community engagement opportunities include:
- The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign | Nov. 15 – Dec. 24
- The Salvation Army’s iconic red kettles return to Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs nationwide. Shoppers can donate cash or give digitally to support programs providing food, shelter and hope year-round.
- Officials with the Salvation Army of Amarillo noted that those interested in volunteering as a bell ringer may do so online or by contacting Wendy Lara at 806-373-6631 or [email protected]. The volunteering dates for bell ringers are Nov. 10 through Dec. 23, Monday through Saturday.
- The Angel Tree program | Oct. 14 – Dec. 17
- Community members can select an Angel Tree tag at participating stores and locations to purchase gifts for a local child in need.
- Those who wish to volunteer as an Angel Tree Volunteer, participating in activities such as working at Angel Tree adoption locations, sorting gifts, and distributing gifts, may contact Wendy Lara at 806-373-6631 or [email protected]. The volunteering dates for the Angel Tree program are Nov. 10 through Dec. 19, Monday through Saturday.
- Holiday Meal Donations | Oct. 21 – Dec. 24
- Online Walmart shoppers can add a $5, $15 or $25 donation at checkout on Walmart.com to help support efforts to provide meals for families in need.
