Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office investigates in-custody inmate death

GRETNA, La. (WGNO) — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating an in-custody death that happened on the morning of Nov. 27, according to Sheriff Joseph Lopinto.

Around 4:00 a.m., a JPSO deputy conducted security checks when he said he saw an inmate in the Intake Booking area “appeared to be unresponsive.”

According to deputies, the jail medical staff and Greta emergency medical services tried to revive the inmate but were unsuccessful. The 68-year-old man was pronounced dead.
