LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Heartbroken family members and friends, as well as members of Las Vegas’s cycling community, signed their names Tuesday to a white bicycle in memory of a man police say was killed by a drunk driver in the northwest valley’s Providence neighborhood earlier this month.
Wesley Sterner, 77, was killed November 2 near the intersection of West Grand Teton Drive and North Shaumber Road. Police charged Charles Carter Jr., 69, with DUI resulting in death. Documents obtained by the 8 News Now Investigators allege that Sterner was pinned on the hood of Carter’s Mercedes until Carter hit a median.
A deputy district attorney at Carter’s probable cause hearing on Nov. 3 said Carter admitted to drinking at a bar and driving home. She said Carter failed a field sobriety test and blew into a breathalyzer that revealed a blood-alcohol content above the legal limit.
