A DeKalb County police call turned violent when an officer was shot while responding to a hostage situation; 45-year-old Shkinnia Patrice Thomas is now facing multiple charges, including the shooting of the officer.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Thomas, of Riverdale, was present at a home on Errol Drive in Lithonia on Friday when the incident unfolded, FOX 5 reports. Officers responding to a reported hostage situation entered the premises and encountered Thomas, who was armed. Thomas fired at an officer, striking their bulletproof vest, and another officer returned fire, injuring Thomas.
The GBI stated that Thomas faces charges including aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. She has not yet been booked, possibly due to hospitalization after being shot, though this has not been officially confirmed.
