Red Cross volunteers spend Thanksgiving aiding displaced families after Syracuse fire

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — While many spent Thanksgiving with their family, Red Cross volunteers dedicated their time to assisting those displaced by a recent apartment fire in Syracuse.

The fire on Nov. 23, triggered by a car crashing into the building and rupturing a gas line on Butternut Street, left tenants without homes. Volunteers gathered at Onondaga Community College to provide support and ensure affected families had what they needed.

“They could be eating turkey somewhere place and they have chosen to really make a difference in other people’s lives and care for other people,” said Red Cross Executive Director Lisa Smith. “So, I can’t say enough about the volunteers; they are fantastic.”…
