Buchanan County man pleads not guilty to trying to kill a neighbor

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – A not guilty plea is entered over an attempted murder in a small town.

Raymond Leroy Gienau, 70 of Rowley, is scheduled to stand trial starting February 4, 2026, for attempted murder, going armed with intent, assault while participating in a felony, willful injury resulting in bodily injury, assault with a dangerous weapon, and first-degree harassment.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office says Gienau got into his SUV on October 24, pulled out onto the roadway, then drove through the ditch onto a male neighbor’s property, hitting his neighbor, and then crashing into his neighbor’s garage…
