Homeowners in Clinton who want to save some money on driveway construction now have a new option if they live in Olde Towne or on a lot larger than one acre in any part of the city. The Board of Aldermen recently voted to amend the zoning ordinance which had required driveways for single-family residential dwellings to be “solid-surfaced with brick, asphalt or concrete.”
The amendment allows driveways of “crushed limestone with a defined edge of wood, stone or concrete” in the historic district and on those one-acre plus lots. There’s a stipulation that the exemption from the hard-surfaced requirement “does not apply to lots where protective covenants prohibit the use of crushed limestone.”
