Poudre School District Considers Later Start To The School Year

Voters provided the money to install air conditioning in all Poudre School District schools with passage of the 2024 debt-free schools mill levy, but the installation of those systems at the 30 PSD schools without air conditioning will take more than 15 years at the current rate of progress. With that in mind, the district is considering altering its schedule including a later first day of school for all students: Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026. The proposal pushes the start of school later by one week. Beginning later helps reduce potential heat-related impacts at a time when temperatures in early August can be highest.
