Now hiring: IKEA to open first Alabama store in Huntsville in 2026

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — IKEA is officially coming to the Rocket City, and the retailer has begun hiring as it prepares to open its first Alabama store in early 2026.

The Swedish furniture giant will open a new 46,000-square-foot location at the University Place Shopping Center at 6125 University Place Drive. The store will move into the former Conn’s Home Plus building, which closed in 2024.

The Huntsville location is a part of the company’s initiative to feature smaller-scale stores in smaller cities. The store will have a 46,000-square-foot layout, compared to a full-scale store that is 300,000 square feet and features multi-stories, a cafeteria, and a children’s play area…
