Blount County Board of Commissioners passes CFO reimbursement from Blount County Schools

Sometimes it’s not the size of the principal, it’s the amount of interest.

The Blount County Board of Commissioners approved 10 expenditures worth a collective $4.27 million and accepted grants and payments worth $63,000 with little to no discussion then invested the bulk of their debate during the November meeting to approving the acceptance of a $21,000 reimbursement from Blount County Schools on Nov. 20 at the courthouse.

The resolution originated with passage by the Blount County School Board and authorizes a $21,000 appropriation from the schools budget back to the county general fund for interim chief financial office services. The school system was without a CFO from Feb. 14 to Aug. 5 amidst leadership changes that saw two directors of schools and two interim directors during the first eight months of the year. At the request of the school board in February, Mayor Ed Mitchell authorized Brian Baldwin, director of Accounting and Budgeting, and his department staff to fill in for the schools to keep the budget process for the 2025-26 fiscal year from grinding to a stop…
