Seeking Advice: Received a $9,400 Bill from DPU After Moving Out of the City

A resident who recently moved from Richmond City to Glen Allen has been hit with a hefty bill of $9,400 from the Department of Public Utilities (DPU). The individual, who shared their predicament on social media, admitted to forgetting to close their DPU account when they moved in mid-October. Despite having spoken to DPU representatives and having their services scheduled to be turned off by the end of October, the resident received a bill that included charges through November 7. The final bill, which arrived on Thanksgiving, included natural gas charges from October 31 to November 20 amounting to $9,200, in addition to a previous incorrect bill balance and other trash/water charges.
