CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Cedar Rapids city crews have started pre-treating roads ahead of snow expected Friday and Saturday, using a mixture of brine and salt to prevent ice and snow from sticking. Public Works officials say crews will monitor conditions and work through the weekend as needed.
The city aims to keep more than 1,400 lane miles safe and passable, prioritizing main arterial streets, collector streets, and then residential roads. Officials caution that during heavy storms, multiple passes may be required before all streets are cleared.
During snow emergencies, on-street parking is restricted on designated Emergency Snow Routes, and residential streets follow an odd/even parking rule.
