El Paso Family Says Probation Is “Not Enough” After Ex–Socorro ISD Bus Driver Pleads Guilty in Child Indecency Case

A Socorro ISD family is speaking out after a former district bus driver was sentenced in a case caught on a school bus camera last year. The driver pleaded guilty this month to indecency with a child involving a 10-year-old girl and received probation instead of prison, a punishment relatives say feels far too light. The family says they hope going public will push other children to report abuse and spur schools to take a hard look at their safety practices.

As reported by CBS4local, 52-year-old Rodolfo Laureano pleaded guilty in November to indecency with a child by sexual contact and was sentenced to 10 years of probation and 300 hours of community service. The El Paso District Attorney’s Office told the station that prosecutors accepted the plea to avoid putting the young victim through a trial while still securing punishment and lifetime monitoring of the defendant…
