Owners of Jacob Alejandro to open natural wine bar in Albany

ALBANY — When Downtube Bicycle Works closed after more than 50 years of business on Madison Avenue in 2024, its owner was sad to say goodbye to customers who relied on its services for decades. Owners of the next-door specialty coffee shop JA. Pequeno, Jake and Alejandro Griffin-Diaz, saw it as a chance to expand their business and draw back community in a different way— with a soon-to-open natural wine bar that has preserved the bike tire marks on the wooden floors of the space.

“It was sort of a perfect opportunity,” Alejandro said. “It was meant to be.”

The new venture is called JAJA Natural Wine Bar, and the couple plans to open this winter once they get approvals for a liquor license and temporary permit. Once open, the wine bar will operate Wednesdays to Sundays from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Jake said…
