New Dicey Langston Heritage Park Planned to Celebrate Travelers Rest History and Community

The City of Travelers Rest in South Carolina has announced plans for the Dicey Langston Heritage Park. The new outdoor space is intended to highlight the area’s history and natural environment. The park will be located around the Historic Spring Park Inn, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Greenville County Historic Register. The project aims to offer residents and visitors a place to learn about local heritage and enjoy recreational activities.

A main feature of the park will be a statue of Laodicea “Dicey” Langston Springfield. She was born in 1766 in the Ninety Six District of South Carolina and is known for her actions during the Revolutionary War. The statue is meant to recognize her role in local history.

The park will also have interpretive signs and an installation called the Charters of Freedom. This display will include the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
