DeKalb County Man Escapes Unhurt as Lifelong Home Consumed by Thanksgiving Blaze

A DeKalb County man, Geoff King, found himself awoken to a nightmare scenario on Thanksgiving morning when his longtime residence was engulfed in flames. According to WSBTV, King woke up just before 1 a.m. to alarming popping and crackling sounds, only to discover his classic 1980 Oldsmobile Delta 88 ablaze in his garage. The house on Glenhaven Drive, where King has lived since his birth, was rapidly consumed by fire as he placed the call to 911.

The fire, which reportedly started yesterday, brought DeKalb County firefighters to the scene where they faced a dwelling fully enflamed. King, watching his entire life’s memories turn to ash, told FOX 5 Atlanta, “The smoke and flames just knocked me back and I had to call the fire department. It just went up so quick it’s not even funny. I almost passed out. The smoke hit me right in the face and the heat. It was just incredible.” Despite having purchased the home from his late parents and it holding deep personal significance, King expressed a profound sense of gratitude amidst the disaster, stating, “I’m just grateful to God.
