Stroll on State will end earlier as snow forces more last-minute changes

ROCKFORD — Stroll on State will end two hours earlier than scheduled as last-minute changes are put in place due to snow.

The event will now conclude after the tree-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. at Main and Elm streets near the BMO Center. The fireworks, initially planned to go forward, have been canceled after the pyrotechnics company had significant delays traveling here from Iowa with the snowy conditions.

“With snow expected to increase later in the day, we’ve worked closely with the city of Rockford to make proactive adjustments that help manage the changing conditions,” John Groh, president and CEO of GoRockford, said in a news release. “Ending the event early will help people get home sooner and allow the celebration to continue with modifications. We encourage everyone to plan ahead, dress in layers, and enjoy the festive start to the holiday season.”…
