PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — For the first time in more than 30 years, the City of Vancouver officially raised their new flag at City Hall Friday afternoon.
Community members Brooke Nugent and Nathan Hunter designed the new flag, which was unanimously approved by the Vancouver City Council on Nov. 10.

It showcases four specific hallmarks: a “field of green” that represents the city’s natural environment and commitment to sustainability, an emblem inspired by landmarks like the Salmon Run Bell Tower and Grant Street Pier, a white chevron representing the “V” in Vancouver and the connection between land and water, and a “field of blue” that depicts the city’s connection to the Columbia River.
“We believe this flag tells us a story of a community shaped by the Columbia River, a deep sense of place and generations of people who have called this place home,” Committee Chair Rose Mendoza told councilors.
The previous Vancouver flag was chosen in 1993, after city employees created three separate designs that were put to a public vote. But officials said the new design better represents the city’s “emergence as a ‘world-class city’ and its strength and natural beauty.”…
