Vietnam veteran finds healing through art at Huntsville’s Lowe Mill

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The hallways of Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment were bustling as crowds flock to the historic textile mill for Small Business Saturday, eager to support the dozens of local makers and entrepreneurs who call the facility home.

But inside Studio 117, amidst the vivid acrylics and landscapes, you will find more than just art for sale — you will find a story of survival, service, and the healing power of creativity.

Everett Carter, a Vietnam veteran and one of the mill’s longest-running tenants, has spent more than a decade in “The Vivid Studio,” using his brush to process memories that once seemed too heavy to carry.
