Fairfield Chase Suspect Arrested After Allegedly Reporting Own Car Stolen, Highlighting Cross-Department Police Coordination

Fairfield’s police chase on Tuesday turned into an improbable case of reported auto theft by the very individual who had earlier fled from law enforcement.

The Fairfield Police Department detailed the incident on their social media, chronicling how Officer Tuss initiated a traffic stop, which quickly escalated to a chase when the driver, Kaleb Johnson, decided to run. The vehicle was found abandoned at the corner of Dustin Way and Scott Avenue and was towed. Hours after the botched getaway, 27-year-old Johnson picked up the phone to report his vehicle stolen, contacting both Fairfield Dispatch and Vallejo Police Department’s Dispatch.

According to the Fairfield Police Department’s Facebook post, Johnson then made his way to the Vallejo Police Department with the intention of filing a theft report, unaware of the coordinated police work awaiting him.
