Pensacola needs UWF and PSC to prosper | Opinion

While I have not had recent direct involvement with Pensacola State College (PSC), I have followed with interest the thoughtful commentaries of Julian MacQueen (Oct 19) and Zach Smith (Nov 2) — two respected, intelligent, and community-minded leaders.

Mr. MacQueen, a former PSC trustee, and Mr. Smith, who currently serves in that capacity, have offered differing perspectives on the college’s direction. Their disagreement, however, underscores the importance of ongoing public dialogue about the role of PSC in serving our community.

Pensacola State College was founded in 1948, followed by the establishment of the University of West Florida (UWF) in 1967. Each emerged from strong community advocacy to create affordable, accessible educational opportunities for local residents…
