ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Thanksgiving weekend was supposed to be a lifeline for local businesses, over the stretch of Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, but some Rockford entrepreneurs said a winter snowstorm turned it into a liability.
“Monday and Tuesday were solid… Friday felt more like a Tuesday than a Friday… (Then came Saturday) and, I’ll be honest, it was a mess. We stayed open at Lucha with a skeleton crew, but dang, it was rough out there,” said Lucha Cantina owner Joshua Binning.
Binning said the combination of family gatherings, online shopping, and hazardous roads left his restaurant largely empty. “It basically amounted to a loss for all of us,” he wrote, urging residents to reschedule canceled plans this week rather than waiting until mid-December…
