Driver charged with aggravated DWI following 3-vehicle crash in Clifton Park

CLIFTON PARK, NY (WRGB) — An Albany man faces charges after a 3-vehicle crash Wednesday in Clifton Park, accused of driving while his blood alcohol level was nearly 3 times the legal limit.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for an unknown motor vehicle crash Wednesday at 4:38 p.m. on state Route 146 in the town of Clifton Park. Investigation into the crash led to the arrest of Scott P. Arenz, 59, on charges of aggravated DWI, DWI, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or greater (unclassified misdemeanors), failing to yield right of way while turning left, moving from lane unsafely and failing to obey a traffic control device (infractions).

Arenz is accused of operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition and at a time when his blood alcohol content was 0.21%. He was reportedly traveling westbound on Route 146 when he attempted to make a left turn onto Moe Road and failed to yield the right of way to a vehicle traveling eastbound on Route 146. The initial collision forced the vehicle he struck into a third vehicle that had been stopped in traffic on Moe Road.
