Utah Man Facing Kidnapping Charge After Amber Alert
Ogden, UT – A Utah man already facing charges of attempted unlawful sexual activity with a minor now finds himself confronting an additional child kidnapping charge. Christopher Thomas Wiggins, 34, is accused of abducting a 13-year-old girl from her Ogden home last Wednesday, prompting the issuance of an Amber Alert by the Ogden City Police Department.
The pair had been missing since approximately 3 a.m. on Wednesday. Their disappearance came to an end when they were located at a hotel in Wellington, Colorado. The crucial breakthrough occurred after a hotel receptionist, while checking in Wiggins, stumbled upon the active Amber Alert that featured his name.
According to authorities, the girl’s mother had discovered an explicit photo on her daughter’s phone just days before the alleged kidnapping. Wiggins, described as a “family acquaintance,” is a registered sex offender and was prohibited from having contact with the minor. Despite this, Wiggins had reportedly been residing with the girl’s family for “some time,” according to the warrant.
When confronted by the mother about the explicit image, Wiggins reportedly “admitted to sending the intimate image to the victim.” The situation escalated when, on Tuesday, the girl informed her parents that she had been “intimate” with Wiggins, leading the parents to instruct Wiggins to “stay away” from their daughter.
The girl was found safe in Fort Collins, Colorado, approximately 445 miles from Ogden.
Further investigation into Wiggins’ trailer uncovered a note he had written to the victim, expressing what officials described as “great love and affection.” The warrant detailed statements of “extreme love” within the note, including phrases such as, “You are my everything,” “I can’t possibly live this life without you,” “I will sacrifice everything to be with you forever,” and “If it costs me my life you are worth it to me.”
Alarmingly, a few days prior to the alleged kidnapping, Wiggins is accused of “shooting a firearm” at the mother and daughter while they were in the mother’s car, discussing him a few blocks from their residence. Officials reportedly observed a bullet hole in the back of the vehicle and recovered the slug. When confronted about the shooting, Wiggins apologized and surrendered the firearm, which the mother subsequently returned to him.
Wiggins is currently being held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on December 4th.
