Picture a Durham where the skyline includes green roofs thick with pollinator gardens. That vision edged closer to reality when Durham became the 34th city in a network of “biophilic cities.” Leading the charge was recent Durham Academy alumna Lexie Chen.
Chen was only a junior at Durham Academy when she attended the Biophilic Leadership Summit in Serenbe, Ga. There, she learned that Raleigh was one such city, committed to increasing urban biodiversity through collaborating with like-minded municipalities.
That gave Chen an idea. She would write a resolution and see if Durham officials would be interested in joining the network…
