Three counties brace for 6-12″ more snow Monday night

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Fresh off a snowy weekend, a new winter storm watchhas been issued for Monday night, targeting three West Michigan Counties: Ottawa, Muskegon, and Oceana. Lake-effect snow off Lake Michigan is expected to deliver at least 6 inches more, with a foot possible by Tuesday morning.

Lake-effect snow occurs when cold, moist air travels over relatively warmer water. If an atmospheric wave is traveling through, it helps the cold air absorb more water from the surface and turn it into snow at cloud level.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Monday morning will be quiet, but by Monday afternoon, winds out of the south-southwest will be perfect for delivering a narrow band of very heavy snow onto Musekgon County. As the wind shifts into the overnight timeframe, heavy snow will land on Ottawa and Oceana Counties as well…
