Wreath Ceremonies set for December 13
Volunteers will gather at Knoxville’s three veteran cemeteries on Saturday, December 13, to lay wreaths at the military graves. The annual event always welcomes citizens to honor the veterans who, after placing the wreaths, are asked to stand and, “Say their name.”
It is a simple and humble duty, and hundreds of volunteers annually attend the event, which begins with a brief ceremony. The noon event involves the Knoxville National Cemetery downtown, the Old East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Lyons View, and the New East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Governor John Sevier Highway. The wreaths are sponsored through contributions made to Wreaths Across America.
Wreaths are also placed throughout the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and at individual graves in our surrounding counties. Anyone may donate a wreath anytime at knoxwreaths.org, and various organizations sponsor wreath events, including the Vietnam Veterans Association Bill Robinson Chapter 1078 in Knoxville. Donations may be mailed to Wreaths Across America, P.O. Box 50054, Knoxville, Tn. 37950…
