Waterfront Development Tax Credit survives Pennsylvania budget battle

From his office at One North Shore Center, Matthew Galluzzo can see the benefits of the state’s Waterfront Development Tax Credit program: improvements at Allegheny Landing park and installation of the Shore Thing entertainment barge right below on the North Shore and ongoing construction to refurbish Allegheny Riverfront Park across the river Downtown.

That’s why the president and CEO of Riverlife was concerned during the protracted state budget battle that the $5 million statewide program could be eliminated or folded into other similar tax credit programs that would weaken its effectiveness. When the budget was approved earlier this month – more than four months late – Mr. Galluzzo was relieved that the tax credit survived at its current level.

“It’s important,” Mr. Galluzzo said. “It is empowering us to do these types of projects on the waterfront.”…
