South Texas wind chills fall to 30s Sunday. Here’s how long temps stay cold.

A strong cold front swept through South Texas late Saturday night, and since then, arctic air has been surging into the San Antonio area. Not only will Sunday’s high temps be about 15 degrees below average, but strong winds will cause things to feel even colder outside.

If you have any outdoor plans on Sunday, you’ll want to bundle up in layers as San Antonio is likely to experience its coldest day since February. The chilly weather will stick around for a bit, as temps stay well below average into the first half of the work week.

Sunday’s forecast

Morning low temperatures will hover around 44-45 degrees between 6 and 9 a.m. Sunday. However, this is also when wind speeds will be strongest, coming in from the north at 15-25 mph with some isolated wind gusts up to 35-40 mph possible. This will cause wind chill values to bottom out in the mid-30s.

The Hill Country will be even colder as low temps fall into the mid-30s around Kerrville, Fredericksburg and Boerne. Wind chill values in this region will fall well into the 20s.

Due to consistent north winds and cloudy skies throughout the day, temperatures will struggle to rise in the afternoon. Expect San Antonio temps to hover in the 40s throughout the entire morning, only reaching the low 50s by the afternoon. High temps will likely reach around 51-52 degrees, with many in the Hill Country not even rising out of the 40s.

How long will the cold weather last?

Monday will be a similarly cold day across South Texas, as morning temps in the low 40s will rise only into the low to mid-50s by the afternoon. Skies will stay cloudy, and there is about a 40% chance of showers, especially Monday morning…
