WASHINGTON (7News) — On a rainy and cold Sunday in the Nation’s Capital, at the end of a holiday weekend, you’d expect city streets to be empty. But at 17th and I streets Northwest, where two National Guard members were gunned down, crowds grew alongside the makeshift memorial.
“It feels important to be here to commemorate a 20-year-old who passed away,” D.C. local Heather Griffis said. “Today, we’re remembering.”
It doesn’t matter that Griffis didn’t get a chance to meet Sarah Beckstrom. Knowing that the West Virginia soldier died serving her country was enough to bring Griffis to tears…
