Bentonville offers candlelit holiday experience

FOUR OAKS — Visitors to Bentonville Battlefield can experience a Civil War–era holiday during the site’s “In Heavenly Peace” holiday open house. The event will take place from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the 1855 Harper farmhouse, home of John and Amy Harper. The house will be decorated and lit by candlelight to reflect how it might have appeared during a 19th-century Christmas. Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site is managed by N.C. Historic Sites, a division of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Attendees can sing Christmas carols accompanied by live musicians, take a festive hayride around the Harper farm, decorate ornaments, and enjoy cookies and cider around a campfire. Admission is $5, and children 8 and under are free. Activities are subject to change without notice.
