The schools that could shutter as SFUSD takes up a reorganization

After the San Francisco Board of Education elected to make Maria Su a permanent employee last month, the superintendent has the stability to revisit major structural changes in the district.

Perhaps the most controversial are school closures, or what Su has called a “reorganization” in recent town halls.

Too few kids are spread across too many campuses that cost too much to maintain. State funding is tied to student attendance, and SFUSD has yet to recover from a 9% pandemic-era enrollment decline. Closures look all but inevitable for a district that has had to make deep cuts to avoid bankruptcy.
