WEATHER ALERT: Significant snowfall expected to hit western Massachusetts

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for all of western Massachusetts for significant snowfall and wintry conditions that will impact the region.

The weather is expected to remain bright, brisk, and breezy on Monday, but a major winter storm is anticipated to bring snow and a wintry mix to the area starting early Tuesday morning.

Timeline: When will it snow

The Winter Storm Watch is set to begin at 7 a.m. Tuesday and will last until 1 a.m. on Wednesday. The storm is expected to bring a mix of snow and sleet beginning around 6 a.m. and 7 a.m., with the heaviest being during the afternoon, making the evening commute messy. The heaviest snow accumulation is expected between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Residents are advised to allow extra travel time and exercise caution on the roads. By Tuesday night, the storm is expected to clear, with only a few scattered snow showers remaining. Snow accumulation is currently projected to be 3 to 7 inches in Berkshire County and Franklin County, with 1 to 3 inches expected in Springfield.
