AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Keep Climbing Foundation is starting its preparations for the 11th annual ‘Climb for the Kids,’ a fundraiser to support families with children undergoing cancer treatments.
The foundation’s goal is to provide financial relief to parents whose children are on the journey of battling cancer. This year, funds raised will be provided to families with a child going through cancer treatments at Dell Children’s Hospital.
Ryan Kelley created the foundation in 2015. Since then, the foundation has raised over half a million dollars through charity expeditions climbing mountains around the world.
Previous climbs have included Mount Rainier, Mount Baker, and Ecuador’s Chimborazo. Kelley said this year’s efforts are “especially critical’ as medical costs continue to rise.
Once the team begins their climb, so do the efforts to raise funds for the family the foundation has chosen. They begin to reach out to communities, organizations and businesses for donations. All as they attempt to reach the summit of their climb…
