ROCKFORD — A painting discovered in Rockford that offered a Polish community the first proof of a little known story from World War II has been returned home.
Tim Prince and Sarah Thistle, the owners of Scavanged Parts antiques and oddities shop at 1001 Charles St., flew to Bialystok, Poland, this fall to personally deliver the one-of-a-kind painting that was created in a Polish ghetto under Nazi control.
“It went home. It went to where it needed to go,” Thistle said. “To see everybody’s expression upon opening the painting, and how much it meant to the people and the city, it felt amazing that we could do something like that.”…
