FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – As police comb through surveillance footage and interview witnesses to find out more about Friday’s deadly stabbing at Piere’s Entertainment Center, venue employees stress its security “can only do so much.”
The Fort Wayne Police Department, FWPD, said the stabbing happened around 1:40 a.m. Friday morning after a “fight or disturbance” during a crowded concert. One victim, 28-year-old Jermichael James, was stabbed in the torse and died at the scene. The other victim, also a man, was transported after suffering minor injuries.
WANE 15 talked with two Piere’s employees, who wanted to remain anonymous and were working the night of the stabbing. They called the stabbing “an isolated incident” and that the venue has “plenty of security.” The employees say there were nearly 20 security personnel working on Friday, including two Fort Wayne police officers hired on by the venue. Security searched people as they came through the front door, confiscating illegal items, patting people down and using metal detectors…
