On November 27, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported assault on I-74 eastbound near the 84 mile marker. Deputies found a vehicle stopped on the road and met Kevin Lamont Alston, 47, who resisted arrest. Officers used non-lethal force to detain him. A K9 unit later found illegal substances that Alston had thrown over a guardrail.
Alston was charged with several felonies, including possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver cocaine and other controlled substances. He also faces misdemeanor charges for resisting a public officer and possessing drug paraphernalia. Alston was held without bond due to a previous pre-trial release.
