Five KAT bus routes switch to hourly rides amid staffing shortages

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Transportation Companies across the country, including right here in Knoxville, are seeing staffing shortages. That’s why a handful of routes are seeing some temporary changes so Knoxville Area Transit can keep them running and reliable.

Starting Dec. 1, routes 12, 15, 17, 20 and 42 are moving from running every thirty minutes to every hour on weekdays. Dylana Kent, the marketing and communications manager for KAT, said the reason is because of shortages in their workforce.

Part of the reason for the shortage is a federal ruling in September. It made states pause issuing commercial driver’s licenses to people who aren’t legal residents of the country, causing training delays for KAT…
