2 dolphins found dead along South Carolina coast

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Two dolphins washed ashore last week in North Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head Island, according to the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network.

One dolphin was found with a severe parasite load in its stomach and mild pneumonia.

All dolphins carry parasites; however, heavy parasite levels can accumulate when a dolphin’s immune system weakens, often due to stress, injury or underlying illness.
